What is Vidya Setu?
Students increasingly rely on online video lectures as their primary learning medium. However, most video platforms offer no built-in mechanism to verify comprehension. Learners finish a video without knowing which concepts they have understood and which they have not. Vidya Setu addresses this by processing the full content of an educational video, whether uploaded directly or sourced from YouTube, and using AI to extract key topics, generate context-aware questions, and produce concise summaries and flashcards. The system is designed to work without manual input from educators or administrators. The platform supports two evaluation formats: short-answer questions for concept recall and long-form questions for deeper explanatory reasoning. Learners can assess themselves immediately after watching, then review incorrect responses against AI-generated explanations. The intended outcome is a measurable improvement in knowledge retention, supported by a structured self-assessment loop that scales across subjects and content sources.

Authentication Module
Handles user registration, login, and session management with role-based access control. Ensures each learner's progress data and generated content remains isolated and secure across sessions.
Generative AI Module
The core processing layer. Accepts a video input (direct upload or YouTube URL), extracts transcript content, and dispatches it to the AI pipeline for question generation, summarization, and flashcard production. Powered by the OpenAI API with prompt engineering tailored for educational contexts.
Questions & Answers Module
Generates two formats from video content: short-answer questions for rapid recall and long-form questions requiring explanatory responses. Each question is mapped to the relevant segment of the video, enabling learners to review source material if needed.
Evaluation Module
Assesses learner responses against AI-generated reference answers using semantic similarity scoring. Provides structured feedback per question, helping learners identify specific gaps rather than just a pass/fail outcome. Results are stored for progress tracking.
Flashcard Generation
Automatically produces spaced-repetition-ready flashcards from video content. Each card captures a key concept with a concise front prompt and a structured reverse explanation, enabling review sessions independent of the original video.
Video Summarization
Generates structured summaries of video content organized by topic segments. Summaries are designed to be scannable, covering key points without requiring the learner to rewatch the full video for review.
YouTube Integration
Accepts YouTube URLs directly as input, eliminating the need for learners to download or convert content. The system fetches and processes the transcript via the YouTube API, making the platform immediately usable with existing educational content libraries.
Learner Progress Tracking
Persists evaluation results and session history to SQL Server, enabling learners to track performance trends across multiple videos and sessions. Provides a baseline for identifying consistently weak topic areas.
